Food Bank Van and Kids Eat Free Bus

The Food Bank of Manatee Sacked Summer Hunger

Even the heat and the rain couldn’t keep Food Bank volunteers from handing out weekend food sacks to school-aged kids this summer. On Fridays, The Food Bank of Manatee followed the Kids Eat Free Bus to Bradenton Village, Southeast High School, and Lincoln Park to ensure youngsters were provided food over their weekend. Additionally, kids could go to Manatee County Public Libraries and receive a weekend food sack. In total, more than 40,800 meals were distributed so far this summer.

Meals on Wheels PLUS Participates in National #SaveLunch Campaign

1 in 5 seniors in Manatee County is threatened with hunger. As the need for home-delivered meals in Manatee County continues to increase, federal funding has not. This leaves a gap in coverage for those in critical need of nutrition. Furthermore, threats of budget cuts to Community Development Block Grants would cripple programs provided by Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. Our community can get involved by writing to Members of Congress to not only protect funding, but make an impact by increasing it. Click here to contact your representatives.

Meals on Wheels PLUS in Critical Need of Volunteer Drivers

The summer months are a crucial time of year for Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee’s home-delivered meals program. Many volunteers have gone north for the summer which leaves a gap in coverage of the 53 routes in Manatee County. The need for volunteers is great and we are looking for Champions to step in and deliver hot, nutritious meals and smiles to those that depend on us. To get started volunteering, call (941) 747-4655 or email jgodlewski@mealsonwheelsplus.org
