Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee Celebrates 46 Years

On October 24, 1972, Helen Blue, Jean McKnight and Reverend Kenneth Bar started cooking TV dinners in an 18-inch oven at Rogers Memorial Church. Today, Meals on Wheels PLUS has grown into something so much bigger!

As of 2018, Meals on Wheels PLUS has served and delivered over 10.6 million meals, supplied over 30 million pounds of food to Manatee pantries, distributed more than 200,000 summer weekend-meals to hungry children, operates Daybreak Adult Day Center–the only licensed adult day facility in Manatee County, and operates 22 classes for active adults at The Enrichment Center at Renaissance on 9th.

Happy Birthday Meals on Wheels PLUS!

Stuff the BusStuff the Bus 2018

On Sunday, September 30, 2018, customers donated 90,000 pounds of food to The Food Bank of Manatee. They stuffed 16 school buses parked at Publix locations throughout Manatee County with food-items like rice, beans, peanut butter, canned meats, and baby formula. We are so grateful to everyone who participated and made this year our best yet!

The Food Bank of Manatee distributes food to over 100 pantries in Manatee County, who in turn give food to families in need.

Home Delivered Meal ClientVolunteers

Meals on Wheels PLUS is in critical need of volunteer drivers. We need volunteers to distribute hot, nutritious meals and smiles to isolated seniors and provide vital wellness checks. During the holidays, our volunteers deliver lap robes as well as holiday shoeboxes stuffed with presents for the clients.

There is no long-term commitment. You decide which days you can to deliver. 2-hours a week can help feed someone who really needs it.
