HELP “SACK" SUMMER HUNGER!
According to the Manatee County School District, over 60% of students in Manatee County rely on Free and Reduced breakfast and lunch programs during the school year. When school is not in session, there is limited access to nutrition. Meals on Wheels PLUS and The Food Bank of Manatee steps in to bridge the hunger gap with the Sack Summer Hunger Weekend Food program. In 2019, more than 126,000 meals were directly distributed to food-insecure students in Manatee County.
2020 has introduced greater hardships. With the unprecedented circumstances related to COVID-19, the need for food has grown exponentially. Families that have never needed help in the past now find themselves struggling to find nourishment and care. In response to this greater need, Meals on Wheels PLUS and The Food Bank of Manatee will be providing Food4Families—COVID-19 relief kits that contain 6 meals that will feed a family of five breakfast, lunch, and dinner for several days.
