HELP “SACK" SUMMER HUNGER!
Over the summer, The Food Bank of Manatee distributes nutritious weekend food sacks for students through 47 community partner sites throughout Manatee County. In total, The Food Bank of Manatee distributed more than 110,000 meals to food-insecure students in 2018.
According to the Manatee County School District, over 60% of students in Manatee County are eligible for free and reduced lunch programs. When school is not in session, these students are not getting the nutrition they need.
“Without proper nutrition, children will not reach their full potential or focus. It is critical to our community that we ensure our children have the essential food they need during the summer break”, says Maribeth Phillips, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, operator of The Food Bank of Manatee.
