Director of Compliance/Accounting

Job Summary:

The Director of Compliance/Accounting is responsible for federal, state and local government compliance activities and related financial accounting.

Major Responsibilities: 

  1. General oversight and principal liaison for maintaining relationships and compliance activities with the organization’s government business partners, which primarily include the Senior Connection Center, Manatee County and the City of Bradenton.

  2. Direction, control and execution of the annual Service Provider Agreement (SPA) in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Older American’s Act (OAA), including “hands on” preparation of the financial compliance requirements for preparation of the contract module.

  3. Grant writing for local government grants to include Community Development Block Grants and other government grants in connection with nutrition and related senior services offered through the organization.

  4. Oversight and development of monthly compliance activities associated with invoicing for services provided through the OAA, County and City government grants.

  5. Coordination of financial accounting activities in connection with government grant revenue, including preparation of journal entries; month-end and year-end financial closings with the CFO, Controller and other finance team members; and communications with external auditors.

  6. Development of all related compliance activities associated with government grant accounting, including the Service Cost Report, Single Audit Schedules and monthly/quarterly reporting, as required.

  7. Oversee all government audits and monitoring activities and development of all financial schedules related to the annual OAA desk and on-site monitoring documents.

  8. Budgeting and forecasting for cash-flow related to government grant revenue streams.

  9. Coordination with CFO and Executive Team with respect to planning and execution of all government grant related activities.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelors degree in Finance or Accounting with minimum of 5 years of accounting experience required.

  2. Two years’ experience with direct involvement in government compliance activities.

  3. Non-profit experience preferred.

  4. CPA or MBA highly desirable.

Special Skills, Tools, Technology Requirements

  1. General accounting procedures, computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (including spreadsheet experience).

  2. Excellent communication and technology skills.

  3. Well versed in grant writing/compliance.

  4. Ability to multi-task, concentrate, and pay close attention to detail at the same time.

  5. Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.

  6. Ability to function as a member of a team.

  7. Experience with accounting software, Blackbaud Financial Edge, a plus.

Job Type:  Full Time / Exempt 

Compensation: $85k – $100k
