Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for executing the Accounts Payable function, including processing invoices and vendor payments. General Ledger account transaction analysis; Payroll processing and support the Controller to facilitate the year-end and monthly close cycle and HR onboarding activities.

Major Responsibilities: 

  1. Identify and assign GL codes and account distribution for processing invoices and vendor payments and submit to Controller for review.
  2. Verify payables are properly approved by appropriate Management personnel.
  3. Maintaining accounts payable sub-ledger.
  4. Check processing for vendors and submit to CFO for signature and mailing.
  5. Maintain government grant files, prepare and process monthly grant invoices and develop/maintain backup support for meal counts and ADC hours.
  6. Post daily check deposits and monthly credit card receipts into accounting system.
  7. Verify cash deposits.
  8. Reconciliation and analysis of various general ledger accounts, preparation of journal entries and support the Controller with the monthly close activities.
  9. Processing and distribution of time-sheets to department managers.
  10. Payroll processing for review by Controller.
  11. Human Resource onboarding activities, including facilitation of Level II background checks and drug tests.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent on-the-job training/experience.
  2. Minimum 2 years prior accounting and/or HR experience.

Special Skills, Tools, Technology Requirements

  1. Strong knowledge of general accounting procedures, computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (including Excel spreadsheet experience).
  2. Working knowledge of general ledger software.
  3. Ability to pay close attention to detail and meet deadlines.
  4. Ability to function as a team member.
  5. Excellent customer service skills.
  6. Ability to follow up and remember directions.
  7. Ability to maintain confidentiality, due to nature of position.
  8. Experience with accounting software, Blackbaud Financial Edge, a major plus.
