2017 March For Meals Champions Week

March for Meals Ride Along

Palmetto Mayor Shirly Groover Bryant, Meals on Wheels PLUS Chief Exective Officer Maribethh Phillips, and Bradenton Councilman Gene Brown prepare to go on a ride-along during Champions Week with Meals on Wheels PLUS Champion Ray Kostanty.

March for Meals is an annual campaign each March, led by Meals on Wheels America. It is designed to generate public awareness about senior hunger, isolation, and to celebrate the invaluable services provided by the Meals on Wheels programs. Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee’s March for Meals celebration included meals delivered by Manatee County elected officials during Champion’s Week, March 20th-24th.

There is an increased demand for services in Manatee County due to a rapidly aging population, combined with declining public and private resources, and rising food, transportation, and operational costs. During March, Meals on Wheels PLUS supported the March for Meals campaign to build awareness by reaching out to the community and delivering nutritious meals, friendly visits, and safety checks to Manatee’s seniors.

Volunteers Needed!

We are seeing a steady increase in the number of older Americans each year. As the numbers grow, we need your help to continue to serve our community!

The reality is, 1 in 6 older Americans in America faces the threat of hunger and 1 in 4 lives alone in isolation. Meals on Wheels PLUS needs your help to reach every senior in need of nutritious meals and friendly visits that help them remain in their homes, where they want to be. With the senior population expected to double by 2050, now is the time to infuse new life and energy into the effort.

Help us celebrate our clients as the wise, interesting and charming individuals they truly are. Click here to sign up today.

More Ways to Help

Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee is grateful for the outpouring of volunteerism from two great organizations in Manatee County during the month of March. Employees and family members from Florida Power and Light volunteered at Daybreak Adult Day Center to beautify the facility by spreading mulch, gardening, and painting the exterior of the facility. Bayside Community Church members volunteered their time and talents at the Meals on Wheels PLUS kitchen facility by cleaning and paining the volunteer pick-up area.
