One Year Later – Update to the Community

At the beginning of July 2019, Maribeth Phillips, President & CEO of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, issued a community letter to provide an update on the state-of-affairs regarding The Food Bank of Manatee, a PLUS program of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. As the largest hunger-relief organization based in Manatee County, The Food Bank of Manatee is proud to announce the many accomplishments and recognitions made possible by our dedicated staff, our Board of Directors, our donors, our annual sponsors, our amazing volunteers, and all of our Community Partners. If you missed the announcement, click here to read the letter.

Sack Summer Hunger Update

The Food Bank of Manatee’s “Sack Summer Hunger” campaign has already distributed over 54,000 weekend meals to students in Manatee County. Hunger does not take a vacation for more than 60% of the students in Manatee County that are on free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs. Students can pick-up a weekend food sack at any Manatee County Public Library, and The Food Bank of Manatee, a program of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, will be following the School District of Manatee County’s “Kids Eat Free” bus on Fridays. Click here for more information. You can help provide weekend food sacks to food-insecure children this summer by giving a gift. Thanks to a $1:$1 community match from the Steven and Natalee Herrig Family Foundation and Steve and Sara Bayard, all donations up to $75,000 will be doubled this summer! Just $5 provides a summer hunger sack. Your gift of $10 will be doubled to provide 4 sacks!

Volunteers Are Needed This Summer!

Bring your friends, family, and co-workers to lend a hand! When some volunteers head north for the summer, it is more crucial than ever to find new recruits to help feed Manatee. Whether packing/distributing weekend food sacks for students in Manatee County or delivering hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors, volunteers are needed to make an impact over the summer. Students Help Pack 600 Bags of Produce!

A huge shout out goes to students from the Boys & Girls Club of Manatee County who recently packed 600 bags of produce for Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee! Winn-Dixie Community Bag Program

We are so excited to share that Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee has been selected to be a part of the Community Bag Program. For the entire month of July, when you purchase a $2.50 reusable Community Bag at the Winn-Dixie located at 5802 14th Street West in Bradenton, $1 is donated to Meals on Wheels PLUS. This is a great way to raise awareness, support the environment, and fundraise for our cause. Let’s get started! We strongly encourage you to share this news with family and friends. The more people who learn about the program and purchase the Community Bag during the month of July, the more money we will raise. The Community Bags are located at the checkout.
