Sack Summer Hunger Update

The Food Bank of Manatee’s “Sack Summer Hunger” campaign has reached its half-way mark, already distributing 41,000 weekend meals to hungry students on summer break. Hunger does not take a vacation for 70% of the students in Manatee County that take advantage of free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs.

Students can pick-up a weekend food sack at any Manatee County Public Library and The Food Bank of Manatee will be following the School District of Manatee County’s “Kids Eat Free” bus on Fridays.

Are you Hurricane Ready?

In preparation for hurricane season, Meals on Wheels PLUS is offering Emergency Hurricane Meal Packages, containing 2 shelf-stable meals for $12. We are planning to distribute these emergency meals to our clients to have on hand in case of emergency. Click here to order your hurricane meal kit.

After a hurricane, you may be without power and many of the other services you rely on (water, sewer, phone, and businesses). Immediate response may not be possible, so you must be prepared to be self-reliant. Items such as medicines, drinking water/containers, extra batteries, and infant items should all be available.

VOLUNTEER DRIVERS NEEDED!

Meals on Wheels PLUS is in critical need of volunteer drivers. Our northern friends have traveled home which has left an enormous gap in coverage for the 52 routes that meals are delivered to throughout Manatee County.

We need volunteers like you to distribute hot, nutritious meals and smiles to isolated seniors and provide vital wellness checks. There is no long term commitment. You decide which days you can to deliver. 2-hours a week can help feed someone who really needs it.

Click here to register to volunteer or call (941) 747-4655.
