June 2018 eNews

Meals on Wheels PLUS is in critical need of volunteer drivers. Our northern friends have traveled home which has left an enormous gap in coverage for the 52 routes that meals are delivered to throughout Manatee County.

We need volunteers like you to distribute hot, nutritious meals and smiles to isolated seniors and provide vital wellness checks. There is no long term commitment. You decide which days you can to deliver. 2-hours a week can help feed someone who really needs it.

To volunteer, email Jackie, Volunteer Services Manager at jgodlewski@mealsonwheelsplus.org or call (941) 747-4655.

Hurricane Relief Volunteers Needed

In 2018, in a preemptive effort, The Food Bank of Manatee is asking volunteers to pre-register on our Crisis-Relief Volunteer list. This list will make it efficient to implement disaster relief. To register, visit foodbankofmanatee.org/volunteer/ and Scot, Volunteer Coordinator, will reach out to you.

Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Break

70% of the students in Manatee County are on free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs. These meals are important to ensure that the students have proper nutrition to grow. But what happens when the long summer break starts? Where will their next meal come from?

The School District of Manatee County’s “Kids Eat Free” bus will be delivering hot lunches throughout the county during the week and on Fridays, The Food Bank of Manatee will follow it, offering free weekend food sacks to students. These sacks contain 6 meals and milk to provide nutrition for students over the weekend.

The weekend food sacks can also be acquired at any of Manatee County Public Library.

Feeding the Suncoast

Hunger in the Manasota is a real issue that effects nearly 140,000 households in our area. We are grateful to My Suncoast ABC-7 for driving hunger relief efforts in their viewing area by promoting The Food Bank of Manatee and All Faiths Food Bank. Keep up to date with breaking hunger news at www.mysuncoast.com/hunger/.

Happy Father’s Day

What do you give a Father who has everything? Honor Dad with a very special tribute or an in-memoriam gift to Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. $200 can feed a senior for a full month. $100 can feed 2 children weekend meals all summer long. Your card of acknowledgement will be mailed upon request to the honoree or to their family. You can make a tribute donation here…
