Dear Friends,

Senior woman with dogEach November, we gather around our dinner tables with our loved ones and give thanks for what we hold dear. It’s a time to reflect and express our gratitude for the people and blessings in our lives. It’s also a time to give back to those who need it most.

When Hilda was declared legally blind at age 87, she said, “Well, this is it.” She no longer had the ability to drive herself or cook her own meals. Once a very independent and social person who loved to dance, this tremendous loss of freedom left her feeling isolated and alone.

Now approaching her 95th birthday, Hilda has been a client of Meals on Wheels PLUS for over a decade. She utilizes our Home-delivered Meal program which distributes healthy, prepared meals to her door daily. She looks forward to her meal deliveries and the connection she has with our volunteers. Her furry friend Abby joins in on the excitement, especially when her dog food is delivered, too!

Hilda is just one of over 1,400 elderly and disabled residents in Manatee County who rely on Meals on Wheels PLUS. Most of these seniors are living on limited or fixed incomes, making it challenging to maintain regular living expenses—especially the cost of nutritious meals that can keep them healthy and prevent chronic health conditions. Many must choose between paying for food and medication.

Families throughout Manatee County are faced with making the same choices. Without the generosity of donors and friends like you, we would not be able to support our neighbors like Hilda. “Meals on Wheels PLUS has been so good to me, and I don’t know what I’d do if it wasn’t for them,” Hilda exclaims!

Friends, please don’t delay! Thanks to the tremendous generosity of the Steven and Natalee Herrig Family Foundation this Thanksgiving, your gift will be matched—dollar for dollar—up to $50,000. Your gift will have twice the impact on our year-round programs and significantly improve the lives of families right here in Manatee County. Thank you for providing for your neighbors and nourishing hope in our community.

Together, we can bring hope to the dinner table this holiday season. Thank you for your kind support, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
