Milestones Abound!

Trusted Supporters and Volunteers,

Thank you for all you continue to do to advance the mission of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. We are so grateful for your tremendous dedication and investment.

We have celebrated some amazing milestones that we want to share with you as one of our closest supporters.

In April, Amelia, one of our Home-delivered Meal Clients, celebrated her 100th birthday! That’s right, 100th birthday! We celebrated her special day with a delivery of flowers and a balloon!

In addition, we surpassed an amazing milestone by providing over 1 million meals to Manatee County residents through our Food4Families program as part of our COVID-19 Emergency Relief Efforts.

We are grateful for our generous community that makes our mission come to life every day. In June, we will continue to advocate for the needs of food-insecure families in Manatee County by promoting events related to Hunger Awareness Month. If you can help spread the word about these important activities, we would appreciate it!

Thank you!

Most sincerely,

Maribeth Phillips,
President & CEO

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

For some, volunteering has cured one problem…boredom. During the pandemic, Jamie, who is a retired Field Service Engineer, was bored being at home from limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jamie is used to being on the go. “I’ve lived everywhere. I must have moved 18 times,” he says.

What could he do with all this time and nothing to do? After seeing an advertisement at Bayside Church that volunteers were needed to help with the programs at Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, Jamie decided to volunteer on Tuesdays and Thursdays at The Food Bank of Manatee, a PLUS program of Meals on Wheels PLUS. “I love that it occupies my time and that I’m really tired after volunteering.” Jamie is grateful that he is able to provide for himself and wanted to do some good in the community to be a blessing to others.

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

As part of United Way Suncoast’s Week of Giving as well as Publix’s Publix Serves program, several employees from Publix volunteered at The Food Bank of Manatee by sorting and packing food for children, families, and seniors in need. Others volunteered by loading meals for our Home-delivered Meals drivers. Their efforts are helping us #FeedManatee.
