July 2021 News Updates

June Food Drives Were a Success!

During the month of June, we asked for your help to donate breakfast items in recognition of Hunger Awareness in Manatee County and the response was overwhelming! We are so grateful for the continued support of our caring community!

Over 15,000 pounds of food was donated via food drives! We also received over 170,000 lbs of food from community partners. In addition, over $80,000 was raised for Hunger Awareness in Manatee County.

We are pleased to recognize the winner of our Hunger Awareness Month food drive contest! Drumrolll, please…… Thank you to Bradenton-based business, Chris-Craft who collected over 2,850 lbs of food and monetary donations to help feed our community! Congratulations and thanks to everyone that contributed!

Just because June is over doesn’t mean hunger is over. Hunger is an issue in our community every day. For more information about hosting a food drive, click here.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Giving Back!

That is a consistent answer we get from volunteers when we ask why they donate their valuable time to advance our mission. And Tony is no different. Tony recently moved to the area and wanted to give back to his new hometown while also getting his friend’s son, Jeffrey, out and about and involved in our community. Meals on Wheels PLUS provided the perfect opportunity. Currently, Tony and Jeffrey lend a hand by sorting food on Tuesdays at The Food Bank of Manatee, a PLUS program of Meals on Wheels PLUS.

In Connecticut, Tony worked as a driver for a nonprofit organization serving seniors, so our mission was something he could really put his heart into! He fondly remembers the stories the senior clients would tell him and looks forward to building similar relationships in Manatee County. His sidekick, Jeffrey, also has extensive experience volunteering at a variety of nonprofit organizations including Big Cat Habitat, Jungle Gardens, and the Bishop Museum of Science and Nature. He and Tony love the feeling of being a part of the team when they volunteer at The Food Bank of Manatee and we are grateful for their dedication each week!

Inspired by Tony & Jeffrey’s giving back? You can become a volunteer today by registering here or by calling 941-747-4655.
